Apple is speeding towards the public release of iOS 10 at the moment, working their way through the beta versions. But they are still finding time to fix the bugs that have arisen in iOS 9, hence the release of iOS 9.3. Many users updated to iOS 9.3 purely to take advantage of a fix and that left them without the means to jailbreak, until now. After hinting at a new jailbreak at the beginning of July, when they co-hosted MOSEC in Shanghai, Pangu has finally gone ahead and released the new utility. Called PPHelper, it was developed by Pangu together with PP Assistant and is available for download now.

It’s been a long wait for this jailbreak, with the last one for iOS 9.1 nothing more than a dim and distant memory now. Pangu remained very quiet after releasing their last jailbreak and, even now, this latest one was released with no warning from the team. One thing that may concern some users is that, not too long ago, PP Assistant was at loggerheads with Taig after Taig accused them of stealing their exploits to build the PP utility. However, as it turned out, the PP tool was a great deal more stable and had no errors on it, and, with PP being the first to release a Mac version of the jailbreak too, it put them firmly in the limelight, not as pirates but as a genuine honest jailbreak team.
Things to Know :
PPHelper for iOS 9.3 can be downloaded but, before you rush off to do it, you need to understand a couple of things :
- PPHelper is released in the Chinese language only at this stage but an English version is expected anytime soon
- PPHelper will only work on Windows at this stage – when a Mac tool is released, as we expect it to be we’ll let you know
- PPHelper will only work on 64-bit devices so, if you have an older 32-bit device, you are out of luck this time around, and, given that Apple is gradually dropping support for the older devices, this is unlikely to change.
